Cyril Le Marquand House is a new landmark, 7-storey headquarters office development for the Government of Jersey. Located in St Helier adjacent to Parade Gardens, the development provides versatile office and public service spaces. Complemented by public realm enhancements and public artwork
The 7-storey composite steel framed building utilizes profiled metal decking with 150mm in-situ concrete floor slabs spanning between composite steel beams. A single storey basement less than 200m² in area and 3m in height solely for plant and services is also provided beneath the building footprint. Lateral stability of the building is to be provided predominantly by a multiple braced frames with steel ‘X’ or ‘V’ bracing in both orthogonal directions. Bracing in the lateral direction are in the core areas. Perimeter bracing and moment frames are also provided on sections of the building perimeter.
The continuous RC floor slab at each floor level will transfer horizontal perimeter loads to the braced bay by diaphragm action in the slab. Site constraints? Unique issues or challenges overcome?
Reinforced concrete foundations were to be avoided. Existing piled raft and sheet piling. Large span column span, restriction on overall depth of floor and beams. BCO designed standards. 450 structural depths.
