Four Ferns Award winning later living project sympathetic to conservation area.

A new build residential care facility with extensively landscaped surroundings.

One of the focuses of this unique suburban project was the design of a complex 140 bedrooms building with car parking hidden within a single storey basement. Back of house, staff facilities, and bike parking are accommodated in the basement space.

The success of the initial project spurred the client and team to add a further 30 bedrooms for The Tall Trees, a dementia specific section of the building.

This project won Healthcare building of the year in 2021 and 2024 at the building and Architect of the year awards.

We were in involve from the initial design stages supporting the team with its planning submission right through to completion. We provided structural and civil engineering consultation throughout. The structure was a combinate of all the primary structural materials, concrete, steel, masonry and timber. With basement being a concrete box and the superstructure being traditional build with precast floors. The elegant façade required carful co-ordination to ensure the articulation was not lost.

Set within a peaceful suburban setting, this exceptional project centres around a beautifully designed 140-bedroom care facility — a building that balances functionality, elegance, and comfort. Car parking is discreetly integrated within a single-storey basement, which also houses staff facilities, back-of-house areas, and secure cycle storage.

Following the outstanding success of the initial development, the client and design team expanded the vision to include The Tall Trees, a dedicated dementia care wing providing a further 30 bedrooms within a thoughtfully designed and therapeutic environment.

This landmark project has been recognised twice as Healthcare Building of the Year at the Building and Architect of the Year Awards (2021 and 2024) — a testament to the quality, innovation, and collaboration behind its delivery.

Our team was proud to be involved from the very beginning — from early design and planning submission through to project completion — providing comprehensive structural and civil engineering consultancy throughout.

The building showcases a refined mix of structural materials — concrete, steel, masonry, and timber — each chosen for performance, sustainability, and aesthetic harmony. The basement was formed as a robust concrete box, supporting a traditionally constructed superstructure with precast floors. Every element of the elegant façade was meticulously coordinated to preserve the architectural articulation and deliver a truly distinctive, high-quality finish.

Suds scheme were maximised. Permeable paving and green roofs. Basement locations optimised to minimise the requirement to remove the granite rock sub strata blasted
